The ICS International School middle school programme is based on the standards and practices of the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate ®, a non-profit educational foundation that seeks to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. The IB is known for its reputation for high standards of teaching, pedagogical leadership and student achievement.
The ICS International School applied for candidate status in 2018 with full authorisation by the International Baccalaureate expected by 2021 following the standard timeline for the authorisation of schools new to the organisation.
At ICS the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate is a natural choice because it builds on the competencies developed in our primary school where there is an emphasis on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside the school, and where our students are supported to become critical and creative thinkers. Like the International Primary Curriculum of the primary school, the Middle Years Programme relies on connecting classroom practices and content to the world outside by emphasising teaching and learning through Global Contexts and by assisting students to embody the characteristics of the Learner Profile.
The Middle Years Programme is a five-year curriculum which prepares students for the IB Diploma Programme, a two-year, pre-university programme which provides students with a rigorous and well balanced education to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding. The IB Diploma is often referred to as a passport to the universities of the world and is recognised as an entrance qualification for university admission in 90 nations around the globe.
Our Middle School programme has been designed to prepare our native speakers of Italian to take the Italian state examinations at the end of Year 9 (terza media), furthermore, ICS Middle School has been granted by MIUR official school status (Parità) in accordance with article 1, L. 62/2000.
